The Unexpected Adventure…

The best moments are usually unplanned, random and spontaneous.

The original plan was to explore the virgin island of Carnaza. My squad and I were ecstatic to explore the island long before our trip. We were all looking forward to explore the island and create new memories there. However things didn’t go as planned.

When we arrived at Tapilon, Daanbantayan port we were greeted by a very kind local who told us that due to bad weather and strong waves, trips to Carnaza are cancelled on that day. Personally, I was very devastated upon hearing the news. But according to the locals, it would be very dangerous to push through with our trip.

So we explored our options that led our foot to Malapascua Island. I had visited the island 3 years ago and although I am kind of sad to change the course of our plans I was holding on to hopes that it would be a trip worth another story!

And alas! I was right. The bad weather didn’t waiver us to continue with our voyage. In fact it made our trip more enjoyable.

Because of the upcoming typhoon predicted by PAG-ASA to land the country the following day, the sun didn’t shine brightly that day. The sky was a little darker, it actually looks like a child who is about to burst into tears at any time. And that made the breeze of the wind colder than usual.

We didn’t have itinerary so we ended up exploring the Bounty Beach which is the main hub of all recreational activities of the island. This long stretch of white sand is filled with various restaurants, resorts, bars, dive shops and souvenir stores.

It wasn’t that crowded compared to the last time I visited the island so it felt like we had the island for ourselves. After like an hour of walking through the tiny sands and still not being able to figure out the next thing to do, we decided to respond to the sea that had been calling us to dive in the moment we set our foot on the island.

Luckily, when we had indulged our stomach with so much food we met a local who offered us 3 hour boat tour around the island for only 800 pesos. What a surprise indeed. It felt more a private getaway.

So we hit the boat by 1:30 that afternoon. Our first stop was the Lapus Lapus Cliff which was also called the “mini Batanes” of the island where you can also enjoy a 50 feet cliff dive. Before climbing through the rocky cliff, we first satisfied our eyes with the alluring coral reefs only the underwater paradise could offer.

Then off we went to the cliff where we were greeted with a picturesque seascape. It’s indeed a perfect site for fearless individuals who seek for daring adrenaline rush through cliff diving.

I was actually more than eager to jump off the cliff despite the known fact that I don’t know how to swim. Apparently, my friends weren’t as supportive as they should with my idea of jumping off the cliff. And although I was a little bit sad, in the end I also felt the fear creep in when we reach the top of the cliff. The wind was howling and the waves were roaring. The vast open sea was just but overwhelming that I felt my knees tremble knowing what the ocean current would do to me if I insisted to jump. So instead we enjoyed the scenic view as the huge waves smash on the rocks with thunderous applause.

Our next stop is the Langub Beach named after a nearby cave or langub (visayan dialect).

The long and wide stretch of sand and the sound of the waves rushing through the shore was so magical. We were all like children running here and there, not wanting the waves to catch us up. What a safe haven it is! If you seek solace and serenity, this is the best place of the island to visit.

Over all, the trip was not only filled with jaw dropping attractions, but it was also filled with so much laughter and fun discoveries. I did not know how fun it could get to be chased after a roaring wave nor how a little chilling the sound of the sea casting up its waves is.

The best realization I got from this trip is that, when you travel make sure to be with the right company. Because you will surely encounter speed bumps and pot holes on the road or even curves and loops that would try to ruin your voyage but if you have good company with you nothing could go wrong with your trip. As they say it is never about the destination, it is about the journey. So no matter how wonderful and breath taking the destination could get, the trip won’t be as awesome as it would be if you won’t enjoy each other’s company. ♥
