Miracles are Bona Fide
Have you ever asked for a miracle from God? Did he give it to you? If not then let me tell you a story.
On Christmas Eve, after having our family dinner we rushed my mother to the hospital because she had hard time breathing. While on our way, I was fervently praying for her not to get confine so my family could celebrate Christmas together. Besides a complete family attendance on a special occasion only happens once in a blue moon. So I asked God, to please just grant me this Christmas miracle.
After midnight, while the rest of the universe is celebrating Christmas, giving gifts and exchanging cards, I, on the other hand, received some news not pleasing to my ears. The doctor advised for confinement. However my mother refused to. According to the doctor they cannot force the patient if she refuses. So the decision lies on our hands. Although I really wanted to go home I know in my heart that admitting her is the best choice – even if it meant celebrating Christmas in the borders of that hospital. In the end my mother got admitted dawn of Christmas Day.
I asked and waited for Christmas miracle and the question was did I get one? Like me, you may think that I didn’t but I actually did. Not just how I wanted and expected it to be.
Hence my mother’s condition needs close monitoring, they admitted her on intensive care unit and to fully process the admission we need to give down payment. However the cash I have on hand during that time was not enough to cover the down payment needed. It was already dawn and my others siblings had gone home. And I do not have extra cash. How on earth am I going to settle the account? So I spoke to the manager and she was kind enough to process everything and allowed me to settle the remaining balance later that morning. Then the admission went on smoothly.
Miracle isn’t it?
Surely just like me, most of us sometimes fail to realize how frequent God answers our prayers and shows miracles in our lives. Because stubborn as we are, we always want to get what we think is best for us. So if we didn’t get what we want we got easily discouraged and think that God neglected our prayers. But did he?
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. – Isaiah 55:9
When we ask something from God we always want to get it exactly how we wanted it. And sometimes when we think of miracles we always expect it to be something marvelous, heroic, life altering or life changing. What we fail to realize is that miracles happen in the most ordinary way, every moment of everyday. And just because God didn’t answer our prayers the way we wanted doesn’t mean God isn’t working.
While I was waiting for my mother to come home four days after she got admitted, I realized how many times God showed miracle while we were in the hospital. Surprisingly, my mother recovered very fast. We were actually transferred to a regular room on Christmas day itself. And on her fourth day in the hospital, she was already putting make up on her face.
Although we were not able to celebrate Christmas together as one family but I am glad to welcome the new year with a bang – my mother gaining her strength back and the rest of my family embracing the many surprises God prepared for each and every one of us.
In the same way, I know God has been very faithful in your life as well. For the last 365 days of your life, God didn’t fail to make miracles and hear your prayers 24/7. Maybe just like me, you just fail to see and appreciate it. Nevertheless it is not too late to give thanks to the Lord for all the wonderful and not so wonderful things that happened in your life. If you fully reflect on it you will see how God moved esp. on those moments you least expect Him to. And as you welcome another year, I pray and claim that God will fill your heart with so much hope and positivity that even when things get so incomprehensible you will still see the series of thousands of tiny miracles God will do in your life.
Miracle happens every day, change your perception of what a miracle is and you’ll see them all around you. – Jon Bon Jovi
